The Dems didn’t win…
Okay, yes they did, and they are saying this is a “referendum for change in America;” the People want “a change of direction in Iraq;” the People are tired of the “culture of corruption;” the People want a “new direction for America;” and I couldn’t agree more. This is most definitely a referendum for change in America, and the People absolutely want a new direction for America – a sharp turn to the right.
Actually, Dems didn’t win, the Republicans lost this election. They lost, because they have forgotten the conservative ideals that brought them to power in the first place. People overwhelmingly prefer a smaller less intrusive government, a strong military, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, personal accountability, and family values. These are the ideals that won Reagan a 49 state landslide in 84, and have put Republicans in the White House for 25 of the last 37 years. Even Clinton ran on a conservative ticket in 92 and 96 promising to lower taxes, balance the budget, and impose fiscal conservatism. Bush and the Republicans have lost touch with these traditional values- the Education Bill, the Medicare Reform Act, the Election Reform Act (McCain-Feingold) and other bloated pieces of legislation are proof of misguided ideas.
Looking at the last night’s election, eleven of the 24 new Democrat Congresspeople ran on conservative “blue-dog” tickets, and Joe Lieberman won in Connecticut being more conservative than his opponent. Of course, there are always exceptions, New England went farther left, California got bluer, and Montana and Virginia are still up for grabs, but when candidates espouse conservative ideas, Republican or Democrat, they will win most of time, but they’ll be expected to represent those same ideas while in office. Otherwise, they’ll be replaced with another promise from another candidate.
